Reid State Park is one of Maine's most beautiful seaside reserves. It includes miles of sandy ocean beaches, headlands, dunes, and salt marshes, and it is just a short drive or bike ride from Coveside Bed and Breakfast.
The park is a destination for Mainers from across the state. Half-Mile Beach is popular in the summer months with sunbathers and hearty swimmers who brave the chilly water. For those wishing warmer temperatures, the Mile Beach lagoon is usually a few degrees warmer than the ocean. After a sunny high tide, the water running toward the sea from the tidal estuary of Little River is downright toasty for a swim or float.
Reid State Park also has several woodland trails (we will provide maps) for hikers. Our favorite is the Little River Trail that runs through woods to an embankment above Little River. It then follows the river to the sea for a walk back to the starting point along Mile Beach. There is also a short stroll up Griffiths Head, with spectacular views of Sheepscot Bay, Seguin, and Hendricks Head Lighthouses, and the open sea. |
