Coveside Rolls Out Its Blog |
Coveside now has a blog where we can post interesting stories and information about happenings at Coveside and in the area -- see the post about the recent New York Times article covering a wedding at Coveside, or steal Carolyn's recipe for blueberry muffins, for example. We hope you'll check back every so often to see what's new! |

New at Coveside |
We listened to our guests who report feeling aggrieved at not being able to watch that big sports event, or critical TV episode, or follow a breaking news story while staying with us; but we also listened to our TV-phobic guests who delight in being away from television for a while and don't want it to intrude on their enjoyment of the coast. So when we built our new garage and storage building (at the top of the driveway), we put a big room above it with a television lounge and game table at one end and -- for those fearful of becoming couch potatoes -- some exercise equipment (a stationary bike, ski machine and -- possibly -- an elliptical trainer) at the other. It's far enough away from the main inn buildings to insure that no one hears television noise when they're listening to seagulls and lobster boats. But when necessity calls -- either to get some indoor exercise or take in some television -- it's available with a short walk up the driveway. |

Coveside Is Again Named an "Editors' Choice" by Yankee Magazine |
Coveside Bed and Breakfast has been recognized as a 2008 Editors' Choice in Yankee Magazine's Travel Guide to New England, on sale from May 6 through the end of August. The Editors' Choice recommendation designates Yankee editors' and writers' favorite restaurants, lodgings, and attractions across New England.
"Yankee's editors and our trusted legion of travel writers select our Editors' Choice winners," says Yankee editor Mel Allen. "From the own experiences and tips from our readers, they research and find the most deserving establishments in New England. Recipients range from the rustic to the refined, but all are noteworthy and memorable desitnations."
Here is what the editors said about Coveside:
"This retreat is tucked into a quiet corner of a working cove, handy to two lobster pounds and the sands at Reid State Park. Seven spacious guestrooms are divided between a century-old farmhouse and a matching shingled cottage. All feature windows looking out on the water. From the brick terrace, scene of multicourse morning meals, the lawn slopes to the shore. Rates: from $135, including full breakfast."

Coveside Reviewed in "Maine, An Explorer's Guide" |
Chris Tree, a travel writer for the Boston Globe, has just published her eleventh edition of "Maine, An Explorer's Guide." Here's what she has to say about Coveside:
Carolyn and Tom Church have created a rare retreat overlooking a quiet cove. This 100-year-old farmhouse has been renovated to include a spacious dining room and large deck overlooking gardens, Gotts Cove with its working lobster wharf, and Sheepscot Bay beyond. Seven guest rooms, all with private bath (one with a spa tub), are divided between the main house and a neighboring guest cottage, new in 2001, with three rooms featuring private deck and fireplace, and its own common space and screened porch. The style, from architecture to furnishings, is an uncluttered, updated version of classic, turn-of-the-20th-century "Maine cottage." A guest fridge is stocked with beer and sodas. "It doesn't get better than this," we wrote in our notes from our many-windowed room in the main house. [Rates] include a full breakfast, hopefully on the terrace, with crabcakes.
