We’re open for our 18th season. The Memorial Day weather was mixed: A beautiful Saturday (when we could have breakfast on the terrace — see above), a chilly Sunday, and a rainy (and then sunny) Monday. But the trees are in leaf, the gardens are well ahead of their usual schedule because of the mild winter, Five Islands Lobster Company is open every day, and we’re looking forward to another banner year. We’re thrilled again by yet another kudo from TripAdvisor — our fourth season in which we have been awarded their “Certificate of Excellence,” based on the nearly 100% 5-star reviews given by our guests.
One of our favorite spring breakfast dishes is “Maine Spring Hash.” It sounds pretty basic, but it’s a fabulous combination of new potatoes, asparagus, fiddleheads, and lobster — topped by a poached or fried egg. Here’s the hash, just before the addition of the egg:
